This highly crafted four level house successfully responds to its sloping site adjoining a coastal golf course at Little Bay. We were asked to design a long term contemporary home for a single man that could accommodate a future family. We delivered a contemporary design of very high quality that responds to its coastal context.

The house steps down the site as a series of two storey elements. It generously sets back from its side boundaries allowing access to the lower garden on both sides. A protected central courtyard allows for a retreat from northeast facing balconies in inclement weather or when additional privacy is required.

The house has two distinct façades addressing the public realm. Our streetscape response proposes a carefully composed façade that addresses privacy. The northern façade(s) is more robust in character using a floating two storey off form hood as a major compositional element.
